Harvey Karpinski - Class Of 1960

Karpinski, Harvey L., age 68, of Harrison Township passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2015. Harvey was born June 1, 1946 to the late Leonard and Leocadia Karpinski of Detroit. Harvey was a longtime resident of Harrison Township, where he lived with his surviving wife of 32 years, Mary (nee Gleason). He was a loving, caring, proud and hard-working husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his son, Leon H. Karpinski and daughter, Jennifer (John) Casbar. Six grandchildren, Lily Ava Karpinski, John A. and Michael Casbar, Kody, Kyle and Katelyn Belanger. One great-grandson, Brayden Casbar. Harvey is also survived by his sister, Darlene (Joe) Czop and brother, Damien (Jan) Karpinski as well as many nieces and nephews. Harvey was an Army veteran, where he served for two years. He retired from Chrysler Mount Elliott Tool and Die plant after 36 years of employment. He was very active in UAW Local 212. Harvey was very active in many boating associations. He was Commodore of Mariners Boat Club in 1981; Commodore of Past Commodore’s Club in 1987; Commodore of ABYA in 1994; Past President and current District Director of IOBG District 25; Past Commodore and current Treasurer of Moslem Shrine Yacht Club. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge NO. 522 since 1979. He was also a member of the F.O.E. He loved to cook all of his life, also for many large functions with the different boating associations. He then turned his cooking skills to competition bar-b-que, becoming a member of the K.C. Bar-B-Que Association. Harvey belonged to Yellow Dog and was one of the originators of the Secret Society of the Crown.
