In Memory

David Hausman

David J. Hausman, 68, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away Friday, September 16, 2016 at Mosaic Life Care, surrounded by family and friends.

David was born on December 17, 1947 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Melvin J. and Helen (Cunningham) Hausman. He graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1965.

David married Johannah Hayes on June 22, 1966 in St. Joseph at Immaculate Conception Church. Soon after, they began their family. David and Johannah recently celebrated 50 years of marriage. Johannah was David's loving wife and tireless caregiver.

David began his career as a journeyman sheet metal worker rising to co-owner and Vice-President of Hausman Metal Works and Roofing, Inc., retiring in 2013. He was active in the St. Joseph Construction Association and Y-Fry Club. He never met a stranger and was the first face seen as he "ran the shop" and estimated shop fabrications. He was an active member of the Missouri Air National Guard and still made time to coach the many sports teams of his children. He was also an avid card player, never passing up a good-natured game.

Family was always the center of David's life. The open door policy led to children and friends continuing to fill the table at Sunday dinner. No one was ever turned away; there was always room for one more. His generosity and caring spirit impacted many people throughout his life.

David went by many names, Dad, Papa, Grandpa, Big Dave and "The Big Cheese". He affectionatly referred to his son-in-laws, as Chumlys. You could always find David by following the sound of his laugh. He could tell a story and talk for days about his family.

David was preceded in death by his parents and infant grandson, Finnegan Hausman.

David is survived by his wife, Johannah; children, Angela (Stuart) Lawson of St. Charles, MO; Amy (Andy) Thomure, Missy (Todd) Howe, Dave (Jennifer), Jr.; Emily (Rodney) Stone, all of St. Joseph; and Drew (Karla) Hausman, of Kansas City; twelve grandchildren, Zoe and Riley Lawson, Ben and Gabrielle Thomure, Murphy and Max Howe; Raigan Mastain, Isabella Hausman, Dylan and Josie Stone, and Grady and Barrett Hausman, and one great-grandson, Salim Mastain; siblings, Dan (Judy) Hausman, Mark (Jane) Hausman, Doug (Nancy) Hausman, Scott (Stacey) Hausman, all of St. Joseph; Lisa (Dan) Grable of Kansas City, and Mitch (Peggy) Hausman and Toby (B.J.)
