I knew Bill and his brother pretty well. We went to Kennard together. Once we got to high school we kind of went our separate ways. Was shocked to hear about his death. I know he went into the Marines. I heard that he was shot outside of a bar. What a shame. Was even more surprised to hear Lanny passed. He was a couple of years younger than Bill. Much too young. Hey Mike, Lanny told me face to face that Bill was beaten to death with some kind of club by a bartender. I saw Lanny at that restaurant across the street from SW High a year or so after Bill died. Hate that they're both gone.
I think Bill was killed outside a bar on Southwest Ave. near Hampton Ave. I can't remember the name of it, but I had been there since it wasn' too far from my house on Connecticut St. I heard that Tom Karcher was with him. I was kind of surprised to hear they were buddies, although they were on the track team together.Bill was a feisty little guy and Tom didn't shy away from a fight. I saw Tom at the 50th reunion. Didn't recognize him at all, and didn't want to bring up bad memories of the night it happened.
I received an e-mail from Tom Karcher today regarding Bill's death and setting the record straight. Tom was not present and had nothing to do with Bill's death. He was killed outside a bar in Gas Light Square by a bouncer who knocked him off a railing. Bill then hit his head on the concrete and died. My apologies to Tom implicating him in any way that he had something to do with it. I was just passing on what I had heard thru the rumor mill.

Bill was a good friend through high school. A good guy as was,Is ? his brother Lanny. Bill died shortly after high school and way too young. Miss him.
