I ran into Cydney at the Asher House at the University of Washington in Seattle in the early "90's. She was house manager. I was doing a video for Asher. It was wonderful to catchup with her.
I loved Cyd's big brown eyes and unruly hair that she straightened by wrapping it around her head and fastening it with bobby pins, sleeping with it that way at night. Ouch? So fascinating to me because my hair was as straight as can be!
For my senior project, I chose to do a study of the Book of Revelations...why??? I have NO idea. Anyway, Cyd was an amazing artist, and she drew the coolest picture that must have gone on the cover of my project. It was amazing!
A Claiborne, Berkeley Hall junior high girls volleyball game in Pasadena Ca was where I first met Cydney Brooke McIntyre. Somehow, we found out we were both going to Prin the next year. It was such a relief to have a new friend when that sophomore year started. Cyd caused quite a stir in in the girl’s dorm when she grew “sprouts” in a jar in her room. Someone asked me if I knew what marijuana looked like! LOL, such a goofy time over alfalfa. She and Mindy Jostyn pierced my ears with an ice cube and needle. They also put my hair in a “natural” for the first time. My mother asked me at Christmas break if I was going to put a bone in my nose too! Those “artist hippies!” Cyd and her children surprised me by showing up to my first wedding in Ventura CA. A mutual friend, who was invited, brought them. While my marriage didn’t last Cyd and my friendship did! We would sing together, both at Prin (with Mindy) and years later in San Francisco with mutual friends. There were moments in my life when Cydney would appear. She was one of the strongest gentle persons, funny and kind people I was grateful to have known. She was a DJ for awhile and wrote for the C.S. periodicals. I remember putting up a poster in the Reading Room that was a quote from her and how the Bible Lesson had sustained her through rough times. While she may no longer be visible, her presence, generous spirit and silly fun laugh still resonate in my heart.
