Susan Vangen

Susan Vangen

Susan M. Vangen, at age 64, succumbed to the ravages of chronic pulmonary disease.  Susie is survived by a sister, Mary Folley; nephew, Jay Folley; nieces, Jennifer Hodges, Jessica Nevin; and great-nephew & nieces Jackson, Alexandra, Elizabeth and Anna; and many life-long friends, including many from our class.

After several years at the University of Minnesota, Susie started a very sucessful commercial shopping service (she was a private detective!) in the early 60s.  She shared an office in a backroom of her father's appliance store on West Lake Street with her good friend and 1957 Park High graduate, Jon Radabaugh.

Susie eventually moved her business to the Miracle Mile area of St. Louis Park in the building that once was the St. Louis Park Greenhouse (Plantikow's).  She expanded her business at that location to include a successful art gallery and a framing business.

Susie was an ardent party-giver, golfer and gambler, and traveler (but not by airplane or elevator!).  She spent weekends in the Brainerd, MN area with friends from the Classes of '57, '58 and '59.  In her later years she found a "home away from home" at Bunny's, where she made many new friends and reacquainted with other Parkites.

Her nieces and their children, along with a nephew, were her pride and joy.  She was planning that they would continue to bring her love and joy for years to come; but that would not be the case.  Susie died on August 22, 2005 from chronic pulmonary disease, shortly after visiting some of those adorable little children.  All of us miss her story telling, her laughter and her friendship.

Susie was also, in our middle years, a prime-mover and planner of our many class reunions.  We all owe Susie Vangen a debt of gratitude for her hard work in keeping our "party" going.  It was said in the yearbook of Susie, that "I love fool's experiments; I am always making them."  She was voted as the "Most Mischievous" member of our class.  At Park High Susie was a member of G.A.A., Surf Bells, Band, Canteen, Blue Tri, the French Club and the Red Cross.  She attended every one of our Class Reunions, except our 50th.  She is truly missed!
