Kathryn Elizabeth Burger

KATHRYN ELIZABETH BURGER

January 15th, 1944-January 16th, 2026

Kathryn Burger, 82, of Bemidji, MN died Friday, January 16, 2026 in Bemidji, MN.

Kathy Burger, 82 of Bemidji Minnesota previously St. Louis Park and Edina.

She was born January 15, 1944 daughter of Charles and Millie Freidheim. Kathy was the oldest of three girls, Sue and Debbie.

After her graduation from high school she auditioned for and was accepted into the Ice Follies and toured the country by train for two years. Shortly after leaving the Ice Follies, Kathy was employed for eight years as a secretary at Johnson Company a material supplier to the construction industry. During this time, being Kathy, she wanted to congratulate a former classmate on the success of their new business, Burger Brothers Sporting Goods. That was the beginning of the great adventure of 54 years to her wonderful marriage with Ted. They enjoyed traveling together and raising their family. Starting in 1976 with Andy and 1978 with Sally. Kathy loved being a wife and a mother. She was a professional volunteer. She loved to ride her bike, run 5Ks, cheer on other runners and taught aerobics for years as well. Kathy enjoyed hunting and fishing adventures with Ted, Bud, Jan and friends, she shot a huge bear on a moose hunt in Alaska, an antelope in Wyoming, mule deer in Montana and many whitetail in Bemidji and the fishing… she always reeled in the big ones in Hawaii, Cabo and Canada. It must have been all the luck she brought while reading in the sun on the boat.

In the mid 80s, she picked up her love for skating again joining the Figure Skating Club of Minneapolis. She skated on the Minneapple core precision team for 12 years. After Ted’s retirement in 95, they moved to Bemidji where she quickly made many friends through her love for volunteering. Being a grandmother was a blessing she described as the best years of her life. She enjoyed watching Mackenzie and Charlie involved in their activities and was there as often as possible. Ted and Kathy spent almost 30 years at their home in Cabo San Lucas, and developed a community of friends. Kathy loved enjoying the sunrises and sunsets often taking and sharing photos of God‘s art.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and in-laws

Kathy is survived by her husband, Ted, son Andy, daughter Sally (Ryan), grandchildren Mackenzie and Charlie, sister Sue (Steve Frost), sister Debbie (Doug Hake) brother in law Bud and sister in law Jan Burger and family.

What a shock to hear about Kathy's passing. We were in the same confirmation class at church and friends through the years in junior and senior high school. She was vivacious, talented and had a sharp wit. I admired her.
So many of the people who shaped our early years are gone. So sad but inevitable.
