Gerald Lawrence Krause

January 29, 1945 - July 21, 2026

Minnetonka, MN - Gerald (Jerry) Krause, 81, of Minnetonka, passed away on July 21. He was born in Chicago to Robert and Irene Krause on January 29, 1945. The family moved to St. Louis Park, where Jerry consistently ranked in the top ten of USTA juniors as a tennis player and led St. Louis Park High to the Lake Conference Championship in 1962. He played Division I tennis for the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1966.

Jerry wrote puzzles and articles for Army publications while stationed in Fort Leavenworth and West Germany (1968-1969). In November 1971, he married Monica Vigen in Minneapolis. Thanks to a stock windfall, the couple traveled Europe for six months, visiting England, France, Belgium, and Spain.

Jerry began his financial career at White Weld in New York and spent 20 years as a market maker on the CBOE. He was a financial advisor at Dain Rauscher and Feltl and Company, where he helped launch the World Poker Tour IPO. He was also a senior derivatives trader at Whitebox Advisors and a trading teacher for GOAT Academy.

In addition to trading, traveling, tennis, writing with wit, and eating well, Jerry loved to fish, play poker, and be active in Democratic causes. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by wife Monica Krause, son Adam Krause, and brother Paul Krause. Donations may be made in his name to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. A celebration of his life will be held from noon to 5:00 on September 26 at The Marsh, 15000 Minnetonka Boulevard.
