James Gaumitz

James Gaumitz

James “Jim” Gaumitz, age 60, of Hudson, WI, formerly of Woodbury, MN, passed away suddenly on November 17, 2016 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN.

Jim was born on September 12, 1956 in St. Paul, MN to Charles and Viola (Ullstrom) Gaumitz. He grew up in Woodbury and graduated from St. Paul Park High School, the class of 1974. Following his graduation, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a Minor in Speech from the University of Wisconsin – River Falls in 1978. In that same year, he began working for the Washington County Corrections Office and had been a dedicated Parole Officer at the Stillwater Courthouse for over 38 years.

In 1979, he was united in marriage to Patricia A. Chezik, and their marriage was blessed with two sons, William and Bennett. Jim was an avid participant in the Boy Scouts, and instilled that same passion in his two sons and many more boys in the community. He was currently serving as the District Unit Commissioner and Assistant Scout Master of Troop 140. He received the District Award of Merit, served on the National Jamboree twice, and was a member of the Order of Arrow at the Vigil level.

Jim also loved the outdoors – hunting, fishing, and boating – both at their family cabin in Frederic, WI and at his hunting cabin in Baudette, MN. He also enjoyed golfing, and was known for his collections, gathering an array of vintage and current Boy Scout patches as well as Star Trek related memorabilia. Above everything though, Jim was a big family man and enjoyed every moment he got to spend with his wife, sons, and his large circle of friends.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Pat; sons, William and Ben; mother, Viola; and brother, Timothy. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles.

Jim and I hung out in jr. high.  He enjoyed building models and the outdoors just as I do.  So sorry to hear he passed away.  As adults, many or our interests were the same.  Our large patch collections and intrest in Star Trek.

Jim and I hung out in junior and senior high.  As I recall, we shared an interest in science fiction, especially Star Trek.  We also played chess, including 3-d chess.  We lost touch after high school.   Doesn't seem that long ago.
