While at NEHI John was very active at school. In 1983 he was included in the Governor's Honor Program. He was involved in Student Government, serving as Senator. He was a member of the Senior Hall of Fame, National Honor Society, serving as Vice President and Spanish Honor Society.

I did not know him, sadly. But remember him because I had just found out Rodney died and that next day I opened the paper and the only death in our age was John Baker, I remember thinking how sad, and then maybe it was a name error and Rodney had not died, but sadly they both did around the same time, and even though I did not know him, because of Rodney, I will always remember his passing as well. We were all invincible and then boom, mid year of our senior year we lost two classmates, it is so tragic. I hope that they are looking down at all of us and saying " damn they look great"LoLRest in Peace
Elizabeth (Lisa) Basallo (Pleasants-Smith)
I had several classes with John over the years, and we usually sat next to each other in homeroom. He was a very nice guy. John was very intelligent, shy, and had a great sense of humor. I remember his laughter very well. I attended John's funeral in the late 1980's with my sister, Barbara, and Becky Turner (Class of 1984). John passed away while he was a college student. John was a gentle soul, and he is missed.
