Dear Gary (Co- 'Most Talented' of Class of '62 and my first favorite tenor!),
Have you joined the choir 'up there' yet? Did Ms. Baker greet you? You were ALWAYS one of her favorites, and no one blamed her! In addition to all the wonderful memories of Choir and Baker's Dozen, I also remember the last time I saw you ... at Priscilla Cooper (Pollard)'s untimely funeral. It meant so much to her mother for us to be there! AND, it was great seeing you again! Give my regards to our other classmates who have already joined you! See you again ... some day ... who knows, you might even convince me to sing again!
Last time I saw Gary was at my wedding (Nov '69 ) He was one of the best TENORS I've ever had the pleasur of knowing. Maybe we will sing again UP- THERE . if I make it to where I know you rest. GOD BLESS . Thomas J. Luger.
I recently received the following email from Deborah (Bowen) Hargrave, Gary's wife at the time of his passing and she has given me permission to post this on Gary's site.
"I do not know if the reunion committee knows of the passing of Gary on October 15, 1999, but I saw the tiny blurb in the newspaper and thought I would contact you.
Gary was my husband for 24+ years. He died from a small cell cancer called Naso-haryngeal Carcinoma which atastasized to his liver. Both lobes of his liver were involved, so a liver transplant was not an option. He was diagnosed early in June of that year. The disease progressed quite raidly. Hospice involvement began in mid-August. He died, as comfortably as possible in my arms, in our home a week after celebrating his 55th. birthday on October 7th. I was truly blessed to love him! His vocal talent was a gift from God, and I know that he is now singing with God's angels in Heaven..."
