Thomas Wayne Small, 57, of Gray Court, SC, died Sunday, November 13, 2011.

Born in Manchester, CT, he was a son of the late Wayland Thomas and Reba Ball Small. He earned an Associate Degree in Electronics Design and completed a number of correspondence courses through the University of Connecticut. He was employed for 30 years with TDM Distributors, Willimantic, CT and served in the US Army Signal Corps during the Vietnam era. He was an avid Ham Radio operator and was a private pilot.

Tom was an important part of the ham radio support team in Laurens and Greenville for emergency communications on the SCHEART Team linking all of SC Hospitals emergency teams, also a member of ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Services) and SC SKYWARN weather spotters.

Tom was a member of First Baptist Church, Gray Court.

Surviving are three stepchildren, Jenny Lemaire Rodriguez, Jason Lemaire and Jessica Lemaire, all of Connecticut; five step grandchildren and an uncle, William Thomas Ball of Gray Court, SC.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at First Baptist Church, Gray Court, with the Rev. Sammy Godfrey officiating. Inurnment will be held in Westford Hill Cemetery, Ashford, CT.

It was Tom’s request that memorials be made in his memory to your local volunteer fire department.

Tom is survived by 3 stepchildren, Jenny LeMaire Rodriguez, Jason Lemaire and Jessica Lemaire, all of Connecticut, and 5 step grandchildren.
