Laura Cook Thompson, age 66, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 21, 2018. She was born on September 27, 1951 in Knoxville, Tennessee and grew up in Mascot, Tennessee. Laura was a graduate of Carter High School and Carson-Newman College. She loved to read and worked at the Knox County Public Library System in her younger years. Laura later retired from the Tennessee Department of Probation and Parole after twenty years as a Probation Officer. She was a devoted and selfless daughter, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt and friend. Laura will be remembered for her contagious smile and loving heart. Her sons will remember her for her sacrificial spirit, strength and perseverance. Laura's two grandchildren were the light of her life, and she enjoyed spending time with them. She will be missed deeply by her family who loved her very much.

Laura is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee Cook, Sr. and Margaret "Susie" Cook; brother, Robert Cook, Jr. and sister, Yvonne Wilhoite. She is survived by sons, Lee Charles Thompson and wife, Tracey and Eric Monroe Thompson and wife, Chandra all of Knoxville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Chandler Monroe Thompson and Alexandra Laura-Grace Thompson; sisters, Bonnie Morris and husband, Bob and Delora Schaffer and husband, Dave all of Knoxville, Tennessee; brother-in-law, Charles Wilhoite of Chattanooga, Tennessee; niece and nephews, Delany Schaffer, Robert Schaffer and William Wilhoite and numerous family and friends.

The family will welcome friends at Hopewell United Methodist Church, 9300 Millertown Pike, Mascot, on Saturday, May 5, 2018, from 2:00p.m. to 3:00p.m. The celebration of Laura's life with Reverend Teresa McClure officiating will follow at 3:00p.m. A graveside service will be held privately for the family after the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Laura's memory to the American Heart Association, 4708 Papermill Drive, Knoxville, TN 37909(www.donatenow.heart.org or 1-800-AHA-USA1) or Friends of the Knox County Public Library, Attention: Casey Fox, 500 West Church Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37902(www.knoxfriends.org).
