It's sad when classmates lose track of one another. I was sorry to hear of Joe's passing, especially since I am about a twenty minute drive from Newport Beach and would gladly have gone down there for a visit.
I knew Joe from way back in grade school at St. Anthony's. He lived not far from the school, and I remember I used to go to his house quite a bit after school to hang out. Joe was a gentle guy, always had a cheerful outlook on things. I am deeply moved at the news of his passing.
I am Joe Haas, Lois Bean's husband, and was a good friend of Joe in grade and high schools even though I did not attend SHS. I am sadden to hear of Joe's passing and I was really looking forward to seeing him at the reunion. Joe and I double dated for one of the proms and we lived in the same dorm at the University of Illinois for several years. I was also friends with two of his sisters and worked with one in public accounting. I also agree with Dave's comments. What a loss.
So sorry to hear about Joe's passing. He and I served a lot of masses together as alter boys at St. Anthony's church, especially during our grade school days. Most of the time he would beat me being on time at 6:l5 a.m., perhaps because he lived just across the alley from the church. A soft spoken and very gentle man and the last time I saw Joe was at our tenth reunion. He'll be missed.
Joe was a great friend and was the best man at my wedding and then I went off to various assignments with the Air Force during the Vietnam era.Joe later went into the Army and served in Europe. We lost track of one another after his Army service and I tried to locate him.The closest I came to reconnecting with him was that someone told me that they thought he was somewhere in California.I was never able to find out where he was and now he’s gone. There is not a word or phrase to describe how extremely sad the way I feel!
