Melva had hoped to attend our 50th reunion. UJnfortunately, on July 8 she lost her 10 year struggle with cancer. A long time resident of Danville, IL, she is survived by her husband, Tom, her daughter, Susan, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters.
Check out her profile on the Streator HS website and a remarkable obituary on mywebtimes.com This is truely an accomplished classmate...
Thanks for the memories, Melva. While we didn't really hang out a lot in school, as a result of our class website we had a wonderful flurry of emails since last October. I also loved our phone conversations with the many "remember whens" and laughs we shared. Your tenacity...more than any ten people I know. ..was exemplary. Enjoy the eternal peace which you so richly deserve.
It's hard to believe you lost your bout with cancer. We were sending Email to each other for awhile and I thought you were winning your struggle so you and Tom could come to our 50th reunion. You were one one of my first playmate/friend so I have known you forever.
May you rest in the Arms or the Lord. God be with you and Sally Solon as well.
Melva and I went to grade school together so I have known her for a long time. Her mother used to give us rides from St. Mary's to Northlawn for Home Ec.
She fought a brave battle. But as she said, she went where we all will end up going. Till we meet again Melva. It has been nice knowing you all these years.
Melva and I had a "real date" to go to the movies in 7th or 8th grade at St, Marys grade school. Please see my profile for more details on our date. The wonderful thing is, Melva and I met again on this website and relived that date as if it was yesterday. We talked of our lives after high school. I realized what a kind, empathetic and courageous woman she was. We stayed in touch until her illness did not make it possible. In my memory I can relive that warm saturday going to the Granada with her almost moment by moment. That date will live on as long as I do. Thank you Melva.
