Michael B. Korte Jr., 37, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 12, 2009, at the Elkhart General Hospital in Elkhart, Ind.
Born in St. Albans, Vt. on July 10, 1971, the son of Michael and Shirley (Barratt) Korte Sr., Michael was a 1989 graduate of Missisquoi Valley Union High School and continued his education receiving a Masters Degree in Computer Science. He was employed as a consultant for Velociti as a Network Engineer. He served his country from 1991-1998 in the United States Navy on the USS George Washington as an air traffic controller. Michael enjoyed fishing and was an auto mechanic and loved his antique Ford Mustangs. He was married to the former Rachael Kenealy, who survives him.
He is also survived by his five children: Michael Korte III and Nicholas Korte, both of Enosburg Falls, Maxine Korte, and twins, Aiden and Emily Korte, all of Rome, N.Y.; one brother, Marc Korte, of Williston Park, N.Y.; his aunts and uncles, Doris Gero and Belle Meserve, Vida Barratt, all of Swanton, and Edward and Doris Korte, Donna Langdon, Bernadette and Bob Wheatley, Ronald and Joyce Korte, Bernard and Jane Korte, Mary and Dale Shoultz, Theresa and Tom Cunningham and Laura and Larry Hess, all of Indiana; and many cousins.
Michael was predeceased by his grandparents, Vernil and Amelia Barratt of Swanton, and Bernard and Agnes Korte of Indiana.
The Korte family would like offer a sincere and special thanks to Lynne Ward and Lindsey McIntosh for their many acts of kindness and support.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, April 20, 2009, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 65 Canada St., Swanton. The Celebrant and Homilist will be Father Thomas D. Nadeau, pastor of Nativity and St. Louis Parish. Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2009. Interment will follow in the Korte Family Lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Swanton.
