Gord Hawkins

HAWKINS, R. Gordon C.D., B.A., M.Ed RCN Ret'd, RCN Reserve, Ret'd Teacher and Coach

We regret to announce the passing of Gord Hawkins on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at Kingston General Hospital with family at his side. Gord is survived by daughters Lisa Hawkins (Toronto) and Stephanie Hawkins (Kingston), grandchildren Johannah and Eric Huige (Toronto), Jaafar Moussaoui (Kingston) and Jasmine Foster (Hamilton), as well as his sister Isobel Field (Waterloo) and the mother of Lisa and Stephanie, Daphne Hawkins. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews and other extended family members. Gord received his B.A. and Officers' Commission the Canadian Armed Forces from Royal Military College, Class of 1961. He served three years with the RCN prior to taking his teaching certificate at Toronto Teachers' College. His teaching career included positions at several Kingston area high schools, where his interest in coaching volleyball became a passion and led to extensive work with the Ontario Volleyball Association and summer coaching at Madawaska Volleyball Camp. After his retirement from teaching, Gord continued his coaching with the local Pegasus Volleyball Club. Gord was also a life-long advocate for the Canadian Armed Forces, served with the RCN Reserve at HMCS Cataraqui and was active in promoting Royal Military College. He attended numerous high school convocation ceremonies for the presentation of a book award sponsored by the RMC Ex-Cadet Club Kingston Branch to area high school students. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Gord's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gord Hawkins Memorial Scholarship Fund with Pegasus Volleyball Club www.pegasusvolleyball.com, the Kingston Regional Cancer Centre or a charity of your choice.
