Sonya Doublett

DOUBLETT, Sophia Rose "Sonya" - 41, Cabot Street, Sydney, passed away at home February 10, 2005, surrounded by those who loved her, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of Peter and Rose (Whalen) Doublett. The angels gave her wings to gently guide her home, where peace and serenity will be hers to know. Sonya was employed with the Saint Rita's and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for 21 years. She had a smile for everyone and a wit that endeared her to all who knew her. She was well known for her athletic ability and spent 14 years with the Cape Breton Brace "Jakes Babes" baseball team. She had a passion for life that radiated from deep within her heart. Many saw her as a lamb in a lion's coat. She possessed an undaunted love and devotion for her partner, Jean, and special children, Jill and Bryan Stewart. She is survived by sisters, Yvonne (John) Schaller, Ontario; Delores (Art) Woodburn, Lenora (Ernie) Wessel, April (Kevin) Hawko, all of Sydney; brothers, Kenny (Helen), Allen (Sheila), Kevin (Shirley), all of Sydney; many nieces and nephews. Also left to mourn are her best and dearest friends, Louis Mombourquette, Heather Oursin and all of Jakes Babes. She was predeceased by brother, George, in infancy. Her legacy of love will comfort us all until we meet again. Funeral services will be held in S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. today, Father Neil McKenna officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cape Breton Regional Hospital palliative care, cancer unit, or medical social work department. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. On-line condolences may be sent to our web page at: www.chantfuneralhome.com
