P. Shannon Passonno (62) died on January 22, 2009, at SouthShoreHospital in Weymouth, MA. Shannon was born in Troy, NY, on April 25, 1946, the son of Ralph F. and Dorothy J. (Shannon) Passonno. He was a member of the Class of 1964 at Troy High School and graduated from NorthwoodSchool in Lake Placid in 1965, where he was a leading scorer of the highest ranked Prep School Hockey Team in the East. While at Troy High School he letter 4 years in varsity hockey (starting center) and golf, winning titles at the State level and the school’s awards for hockey and golf. He also lettered in varsity tennis and baseball. Shannon played several yeas of semi-professional hockey in a Boston league. He attended the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.
Shannon was inducted into the Edward C. Picken Troy High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001. A former member of the Country Club of Troy (only member to win both the Men’s Member Guest Golf Tournament and the Club Member Guest Tennis Championship), Schuyler Meadows Country Club and the Fort Orange Club. He remained an avid golfer until recently. Shannon spent his professional life as a Manufacturer’s Representative, where he represented many national companies, several of which were paint and paint sundry manufacturers. He owned the Passonno Agency and was a NY State Licensed Real Estate Broker and past member of the Capital Region Multiple Listing Service. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy, NY.
Shannon is survived by two brothers, Ralph F. (Hannelore) Passonno Jr (THS '59) of Troy, NY, and John F. (Janice) Passonno of Syracuse, NY; nephews Ralph F. “Randy” (Audra) Passonno III of Duanesburg, NY, Christopher T. Passonno of Plano Texas, John F. (Shana) Passonno Jr, of Longmeadow, MA; nieces Lisa M. (Paul) Franklin of Loudonville, NY, Michelle N. (Eugene) Littlejohn of Troy, NY, Kristin (Gary) Peters of Syracuse, NY, Jennifer (Mark) Hartsell of Bridgewater, MA; and 14 grand nieces and nephews.
The family thanks the nurses at SamaritanHospital in Troy and a special thank you to the nurses in the Intensive Care Unit.
The funeral is from the Bryce Funeral Home, 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy, NY, at 12:30 pm on Friday, January 30, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumite Road, Loudonville, NY, at 1:00 pm, followed by a Christian Burial in St.AgnesCemetery, Menands, NY. Calling hours are from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 29, at the Bryce Funeral Home.
