4-06-28 4-4-07 Passed away April 4, 2007 in Sun City, Arizona. Loni fought a successful battle against cancer for the past 12 years and led a rich, rewarding, full and active life. She was an active member of A.A.U.W., Delta Kappa Gamma; A.F.T., T.F.T., Palmbrook Country Club in Sun City, and had served on the board of Pierce County Labor Council. Among her many accomplishments she had been a disc jockey at KMO during the 60’s, was named Tacoma’s Woman of the Year in 1962, a television program producer at Bates Technical Vocational School and was a past member of Day Island Yacht Club. She attended Arizona State University, University of Oregon and College of Puget Sound and taught at the Tacoma Police Academy, Gray and Jason Lee middle schools and Lincoln High School before becoming a member of Foss High School planning committee in 1973. She spent the next 20 years at Foss teaching English and the International Baccalaureate Program. Loni retired in 1993 and spent the winter months at her home in Sun City, Arizona. She enjoyed bridge, golf, boating and loved to travel. She traveled to Europe three times, Hawaii several times, Tahiti, Mexico and throughout the States. Loni was an original, one-of-a-kind, and will be deeply missed by family, students and her many friends who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband of 33 years David R. Fay; his 3 children, Paula, Steven and Colleen; her son Fred “Rick” Smith and wife Karen; granddaughter Angela and Karen; grandson Fred Smith and wife Janel; great grandsons Tyler, Avery, Cooper and Walker; her son Jeffrey Smith and Linda; grandson Brennan; nieces JoAnn and husband Alan; cousins Eliane, Pierre and Monique Caubere of New York; the many members of the Fay family: Ramona, Linda and John McGowen, Larry and Barbara, Gordon, father-in-law Doane and all their children and grandchildren.
