In Memory

Curt Davis

Curtis Robert Davis II died on May 24, 2005 after a valiant battle with cancer.

Curt, the eldest child of Bob and Mary Alma Davis, was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on June 22, 1950.

During his youth, he lived and attended school in Taft, Texas. Among many honors, he won Mr. Von Rosenburg’s Creative Writing Award, played trumpet in the band, and was a reputable varsity football player. As a teenager he joined the Methodist Church and was active in the youth group at the First United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. He also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a member of BSA Troop 43 in Taft, Texas. After graduating from Taft High School, he attended Trinity University in San Antonio and graduated with a degree in Anthropology and Sociology.

He spent many summers of his childhood working during the cotton and grain harvest, both in the fields and in cotton gins. After college, he returned to South Texas and began his career in the farming business. He worked with his father first, then partnered with his grandmother and later became sole proprietor of McCann Farms.

Throughout his life he belonged to many academic, agricultural and golf associations and served on numerous boards. His true avocation, however, was the game of golf. He was a man of few words, but his quick wit and sharp humor livened conversations, especially those that dealt with politics, philosophy, literature or history.

Curt touched the lives of many and he will be deeply and profoundly missed by all who knew him well. He will be remembered as a beloved husband, a devoted father, a trustworthy friend, a competitive golfer, a knowledgeable outdoorsman, an avid reader, a connoisseur of music, a world traveler, an honorable scout, and a respected mentor.

He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Knauer Davis; two sons, Dylan Curtis Robert Davis and Duncan Thomas Knauer Davis; his mother, Mary Alma McCann Davis of Taft, Texas; a sister, Carol Davis Jolink and her husband Dirk of Austin, Texas; and two brothers, Kimsey McCann Davis and his wife Susan of Portland, Texas and Kevin DeWitt Davis and his wife Amy of Littleton, Colorado. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Chaille and Jennifer Jolink of Austin, Texas; Ainsley and Hadley Davis of Portland, Texas; DeWitt and Macy Davis of Littleton, Colorado; Edith Chloe Knauer of Austin, Texas; August and Marie Stengel of Belle Meade, Tennessee; and Alexandra, Benjamin, and Patrick Knauer of Mill Valley, California. He is preceded in death by his father, Curtis Robert Davis, of Taft, Texas and his grandparents, Dr. And Mrs. John DeWitt Davis of Kingsville, Texas and Mrs. Ola Hunt McCann of Gregory and Taft, Texas.

Oh my god, I just read this! I did not know Curt had passed away.  He was such a fun loving guy.  Good person.  So sad to hear that he is gone.
