I will never forget when Brett and I (hope my kids never read this) scored a "dime" bag and were talking about it on the phone... the only thing we miscalculated was his brother left the phone off the hook in his parents room.. After we hung up, Brett's father walked into Brett's room asked politely asked him what a "dime bag" was... for those of you that remember Brett.. you can imagine his eyes and response. I had great times with Brett..

I have a great memory of Brett from Encino Elementary School. For my 12th birthday, Carrie Dinow threw me a surprise party that came to my house. And Brett's gift to me was a t shirt from Chickenshirt (remember the iron-on logos?) and on the back it said, "Hey, Cutie, that's you, Wendy." I was kind of embarrassed, but in retrospect, I think it was great that he said what he meant.

I hadn't seen Brett since High School Graduation, but went to his funeral to honor the boy that I had known. He was a great guy.

I loved Brett like a brother. Brett and I did a lot of fun crazy stuff all the way through high school. He was the first person I gave a ride to when I got my drivers license. I still remember the look of fear in his mom's eyes when we left the curb to go on our first of many joy rides. We stayed in touch after high school and college. Brett and I went through divorce at the same time in our early 30’s. We lived together for about a year with our daughters in Agoura.

He was a great friend… I miss him...

Brett was one of my best friends, and I will miss him greatly. He drove me to school every morning when I was in 10th grade -- not for free, I had to pay him three bucks and two joints (!) a week -- and I remember he ALWAYS used to talk about how his dad was going to give Brett his Corvette, but poor Brett, it just never happened.

When he was a 12-year-old at West Encino Little League, Brett played for Angels and I played for the Pirates. Among his teammates were Jon Adler and Mike Hennessey (I think), and on my team were Billy Ray, Joey Kaplan, Glen Buter (one grade older, but lived across the way from Carrie Dinow), Jeff Refold, Kenny Stickley, and a couple of others. Anyway, one day Brett hits a home run off Billy Ray, and I still remember the look on Brett's face the next day at Encino Elementary, smack-talking Billy: "I loved every minute of it!"

His license plate read: "Brett L." I remember Steve Berkery telling him he was going to get a personaized plate, too: "Steve B."

Brett Lawrence was a good guy, a good friend. Kind of a non-conventional or off-beat, but in a lovable way.

When I heard about the passing of Brett last year, I was very heart broken to hear the news! We were friends in Portola! He was always like a gentle teddy bear! Always kind to the girls and made us all laugh! We all felt so comfortable with him!!! I know that he will be missed in every way! But I also know that he will be watching us all from above when we are at the reunion, with a big smile on his face enjoying all the stories that we recall happened in THOSE DAYS!!!! Love you Buddy!!!

To Brett's daughter,

I'm so sorry for the loss of your dad.

I remember your dad best from 5th grade. We were "going out" and he gave me the most beautiful gold bracelet with my name engraved on it. It was so sweet, a little over the top, and it makes me smile to this day. Truthfully, I can't remember how long we stayed together, but I do remember he was my only elementary school boyfriend who was as tall as I was.

I checked my jewelry box and I still have the bracelet.

I wish you and your family peace as you walk through the difficult months ahead.
