. Teri was killed in an airplane crash around Bowman Field December 30, 1995 coming home for a New Year's Eve Party. Please go below to post your thoughts.
Yes, Teri was a very good friend when we were in middle school. My grandmother lived in Taylorsville, right down from Bennett's Hardware (in fact grandma's house is the only one left still standing on that block across from where Strong's dentist used to be, or at least last I looked it was there.). Teri and I spent time together crawling thru the side area of the hardware store I remember. Years later, before Teri died, I remember seeing Shari at Saint Anthony Hospital, where we both worked and asking her about Teri and to say hi.
We have lost quite a few of our classmates in just 30 years, and as we get older and begin to see even more health issues, I suspect we will lose more in the next few years...even though we are a young 48 or so.
I spent a lot of time around Bennett's Hardware because my mother worked upstairs as a book-keeper for Edward. Teri's birthday was the day before mine. I went home with Teri for a slumber party in the 4th grade and I was the only one that didn't get in trouble for telling dirty jokes after Teri's parents went to bed.
Teri was always getting me into trouble. The first time I got drunk was with Teri and Larry Foremen. Boy do I remember that evening. I also remember going shopping with her right after she got her license. We went to Sears in St. Matthews and the alternator went out on the car. Sears fixed the problem and we ended up at Whistle Stop for pizza in Buchel on the train tracks.
Here's one of my favorite stories about Teri Bennett. We were in the 6th grade and one night I went home with her and was spending the night. Her dog would always sleep with her as she did that night. Her dog decided it was time to have puppies. About 11:30 her dog had her first puppy right in the middle of the bed beside my leg. Teri ran into her mother's bedroom yelling at the top of her lungs. Her mother took the dog and first puppy, put in the bathtub on a rug where she has 3 more puppies. That was the first time I had ever seen anythng give birth. The very last time I ever saw Teri she reminded me of this story. Actually, I ran into her sister, Shari, just a couple months ago and she brought it up.
Teri was always a true friend. I loved being around her. I was at her home several times to sleep over or at one of her crazy slumber parties. I remember the night of the dirty jokes. I'll never forget how mad her mom was. Of course she just happened to hear Teri tell the worst of all of them!
I rememeber being at her house one time and she had a pet goat. I thought that was the neatest thing I had ever seen!
Teri was the best at laughing things off. I wish I was more like her in that aspect. What a special person she was. I'm glad I have memories of her.
