Rex was compassionate and generous with kind words and encouragement. I know this because of a few genuine and inspirational lines written by him in an old elementary school annual. That memory is still so vivid, because he gave them at a time when they were needed the most. He showed "no respect of persons" (treated everyone the same) and could make friends with anyone in school with his approachable easy-going manner.
