Elliott Fisher VIEW PROFILE

September 30, 1944 - July 23, 2017 Elliott Fisher passed away peacefully at home in Alameda, CA at the age of 72, surrounded by his family. He was born in 1944, grew up in New Jersey, and moved to the Los Angeles area in the late 1960s following his graduation from Rutgers University. He never lost his New Jersey accent in his many years in Southern California. He married Margaret Ackermann in 1970, who shared his life for 46 years until his moment of passing. Elliott joined the Los Angeles County district attorney's office in 1974 as a law clerk, then served as a deputy district attorney for 30 years after earning his J.D. from Southwestern Law School in 1975. During that time he prosecuted everything from misdemeanors to homicides. In the 1990s, Elliott joined the major fraud division, where he prosecuted complex, high-profile cases, including that of the Motamedi insurance fraud ring, one of the largest insurance fraud operations in the United States. A gifted storyteller, Elliott frequently entertained his friends and family with tales of his many adventures, including stories of his childhood and young adult years in New Jersey, his time living on a kibbutz in Israel, and the extraordinary cases he prosecuted in Los Angeles. Following his retirement from the DA's office, Elliott traveled extensively with his wife Margaret, particularly enjoying river cruises in Europe. He was a true connoisseur of the best sandwiches in the greater Los Angeles area, and always had a ready recommendation for the best place to find any given food. Elliott enjoyed woodworking and made much of the furniture in his home, as well as beautiful jewelry and keepsake boxes for his family members. He was also a dog lover and rescuer of stray dogs. He and Margaret moved from Woodland Hills to Alameda in 2016. A small ceremony with immediate family members was held on July 24th. Elliott is survived by his wife Margaret Fisher of Alameda, daughters Becky Peterson-Fisher of Oakland and Jessica Zeckel of Carmel, IN, grandchildren Miriam Peterson-Fisher, Allison and Cecilia Zeckel, sister Nancy Kaufman of Newport Beach, and stepbrother Lewis Korn of Hawthorne, NY. He was a true mensch and will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
