Melanie graduated from the University of Texas with 2 majors in business and German. She met her husband at school and they married in 1991. They moved to Colorado Springs where she received a scholarshiip to Colorado Tech from the Navy and earned a Masters in Logistics. After moving to the Washington DC area she worked for the Navy Department. About this time they were notified that they had been accepted to adopt 5 1/2 year old twins from Russia. They moved back to Colorado Springs with the twins. A job opportunity took them to Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina (across the bridge from Charleston).
