Hey everyone who has stopped by Catherine Jones' memorial site. Actually, her name was Catherine Jones Henderson as she was married to the Reverend Sam Henderson for about 17 years at her time of death. Catherine was a professional counselor and had degrees from several places (bachelors from Randolph-Macon, masters from Georgia State). She was the mother of Andrew and Lauren. Her son Andrew and his wife Michelle just named their first baby Lucy Catherine Henderson and her daughter Lauren just received her masters from Fuller Seminary in California. Her husband Sam remarried a couple of years ago to Lane and they live in Atlanta. Of course, her parents, Lella and Harry are still in Thomasville and most of her siblings are also in Georgia: Randy, Margaret, Harry T, Powell and Nancy.
Cax and I were best friends from about the age of two and we continued to be close even until her death in 1997. So much so that I flew immediately from CT to NC for her 'first' funeral at their church there (later she had a service and burial in Thomasville, and another service in AL at their former church). I was glad to be able to be there the day after her death for her children and sisters. Hard times, folks. As most of us remember Cax, she was beautiful, brilliant and fun. As a counselor, she also helped scores of people. (I heard that her memorial service in Alabama, where she had worked as a counselor for many years, had a looong line of people to tell family how much Cax had helped them through their problems.) For me, she was simply a terrific best friend. We all have issues and struggles. Cax had hers. I have mine. Most of all, she loved God, and He loves her too.
Every time I visit Thomasville I stop by her grave and 'chat'. Sometimes I leave a little remembrance. I so wish she could be at our 40th reunion... I celebrate her life and her legacy.

It meant so much to see Lella Jones~
For Lella Jones to come to our first night of THS Reunion activities
was so special and meaningful, for Catherine Jones will always be in
our memories as one of the kindest classmates, one of the best listeners,
one of the best students, and one of us forever as we reflect on the fun
times we shared with her in our midst. Cindy Secrest McDowell has given
us a valuable profile of Catherine's adult life and reminds us all what
a special friend Catherine was to us!
