Jody moved to Albany a couple of years after I moved to Thomasville. She was a delightful person and someone I enjoyed sharing time with in Thomasville. It is sad she left us so early in life.
Cathie Oglesby (Campbell)
Jody Whittle was one of my earliest friends in Thomasville. I learned to ride a bike
in her front yard. Her brother, Len, pushed me around the azalea bed until I could
ride on two wheels. It was a sandy driveway that wouldn't hurt if you fell. Jody and
I also played "slip and slide" on her front porch by putting the water hose under the
door threshold and running to slide on our knees down the wet, smooth concrete.
We would also sit in the big oak tree in her front yard and call to Mr. Ingraham, a
gentleman who had a wagon and a mule. He would stop and let us run out and
ride in his wagon a half a block up to Pinetree Blvd. We also told ghost stories in
the hallway of her house. Melanie, her oldest sister, scared us quite well before
bedtime! Our favorite snack would be a mayonnaise sandwich.
Jody went to UGa and I would see her on campus. She married Tom Schulte from
Texas and had two beautiful boys. It was a deep sorrow to hear about her untimely
death.
Jody was missed at our Reunion for the Class of '71, but I can still see us singing to The
Temptations with Melanie and using candlesticks for microphones and doing our synchronized
routine, laughing together. Jody was a wonderful friend.
