As the friends of our youth age and pass on, we recall them as they were young, hopeful, and full of promise. I first met Chuck Ranker sitting next to me in Florence Heckman's math class in 7th grade. He was a good friend, loyal classmate, and fine man. Rest in Peace old friend, you will not be forgotten.
Charlie was a dear friend as well as my best man when Linda and I got married. He loved Laurel with all his heart and missed her dearly. I struggle with his passing as we last saw each other at our 50th reunion and looked forward to seeing each other again at the 55th. I have numerous fond memories as well as humerous stories that Charlie and I shared with each other. Sadly missed, never forgotten ... RIP with the love of your life.
Charlie and I were best friends growing up together on Kensington Avenue. We played together almost every day. Then I started school (or was it college) at Miami school, now Tiffin University, and Charlie was just a year behind me. We walked or rode bikes to school together, and played outside after school until we were called in for supper (no, not on cell phones!). I remember us building forts and hideouts out of huge carboard boxes in the field where Washington school was being built. Lots of good times. Then came Jr. High and Columbian. When I turned 16 and bought an old car, Charlie rode back and forth to school with me. Then the girl friend thing started, and , well, you know, we didn't play together so much but were still close friends. We didn't see too much of each other after high school, but we did manage to meet for lunch a coulpe times when Mary and I were back in Ohio visiting. Lots of memories........it hurts to lose an old friend. Farewell my friend. Now you are back with Laurel, Heather, Dorsey, Mom and Dad and Grandma Curry. May you rest in peace. See you on the other side.
