Ann Louise Callaghan, 69, of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, at home surrounded by loved ones after a year long battle with brain cancer.
She was born Jan. 30,1949, in Tiffin, to Robert L. And Mary ‘Lois’ Callaghan.
She is survived by her two brothers, Steven and Nevin; two sisters-in-law, Amy and Katherine; four nephews, Chris (Ramona), Connor, Collin and Reilly; a niece, Kelsey; and many dear friends, including Sally Bryker, Holly and Don Williams, George Pittman and Dennis Leahy.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents and a younger brother, Tom.
She graduated in 1967 from Tiffin Calvert Catholic High School, where she was homecoming queen and made lifelong friendships. Ann graduated from the University of Dayton in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in social work.
The ocean called to Ann and she moved to Sausalito, California, where she spent many years restoring wooden sailboats. Ann’s adventures took her to many states but she came to Greensboro in 1998, to help her twin brothers in their new business. Ann worked for Cal-Clean for 10 years then the U.S. Post Office and retired from there in 2014.
Ann so loved to laugh with her friends and family and enjoyed jazz and blues. She was happy spending time gardening and feeling the beauty and peacefulness of her back yard. Yoga was a lifelong practice and Ann loved to work out with her best friend, Sally Bryker.
Ann’s family would like to thank Wake Forest Cancer Center and doctors for their care and compassion as well as hospice and her visiting angels, Bernice and Lena.
A celebration of life will be 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019, at Fellowship Presbyterian Church’s Fellowship Hall, 2005 New Garden Rd., Greensboro, NC 27410.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Sanctuary House, 518 N. Elm St., Greensboro, NC 27401.
