Fr. Robert L. Dendinger, 61, of N. 8th St., Upper Sandusky, died at 9:35 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, in Autumnwood Care Center, Tiffin.
He was born Dec. 11, 1949, in Tiffin, to the late Paul J. and Madeline F. (Bolish) Dendinger.
Surviving are two sisters, Susan (Sherin Abdel Meguid) Dendinger of Exton, Pa., and Mary Ann Dendinger of Tiffin; four brothers, Charles J. (Sharon) Dendinger of Toledo, James P. (Miriam) Dendinger of Tiffin, Thomas J. (Pat) Dendinger of Auburn, Ind., and Gerald E. (Jane) Dendinger of Toledo; five nephews; eight nieces; 11 great-nieces; and seven great-nephews.
Fr. Dendinger is a 1967 graduate of Tiffin Calvert High School and a 1971 graduate of Xavier University, Cincinnati; he received his masters of divinity from St. Meinrad School of Theology in 1975. He was ordained into priesthood May 24, 1975, at Holy Rosary Cathedral by Most Rev. John A. Donovan. He served as an associate pastor from 1975-1978 at St. Rose, Perrysburg, and then St. Paul, Norwalk, from 1978-1984. From 1984-1994, he was pastor of Mansfield St. Mary's, Napoleon St. Augustine from 1994-1997, New Washington St. Bernard/N. Auburn from 1997-2008 and Transfiguration of the Lord from 2008 to the present time. The Diocesan Honors given him were Priests' Senate/Council in 1978 and Diocesan Consultor in 1983.
Bob's hobbies were traveling, genealogy, world history, study of music and a knowledge of antiques.
He always remained faithful and compassionate in his service to others, especially the mentally handicapped, the elderly, prisoners, the sick and the dying. He never forgot a family birthday and remembered all parishioners by their first name.
His Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at St. Peter's Catholic Church with the Most Rev. Bishop Leonard P. Blair officiating. Homilist will be Fr. Ted Miller.
A public vesper prayer service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, followed by visitation until 8 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky.
Private family burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Tiffin.
