Michael C. Smith

(February 16, 1949 - April 15, 2013) 

 

Michael Charles Smith, 64, of Palmetto, FL and formerly of Tiffin, passed away Monday morning, April 15, 2013 in Bradenton, FL.

He was born on February 16, 1949, in Fostoria, Ohio to Victor C, Sr.. and Rita (Frankart) Smith. On February 28, 1993, he married Mary (Myers) (Clark) Smith and she survives in Country Lakes 1, Palmetto, FL.

Also surviving are 2 sons, Christopher “Chris” (Lynn) Smith and Anthony “Tony” (Amanda) Smith, both of Tiffin; 2 daughters, Dea (Cory) Nye of New Riegel and Laurie (John) Orndorff of Virginia; 4 brothers, Vic (Jean) Smith, Jr. of Tiffin, Gerry Smith of Sandy, UT, Kevin (Roxanne) Smith of Zionsville, IN, and Steven (Leslie) Smith of Republic; 1 sister, Mary (Daniel) Reimer of Tiffin; 11 grandchildren, Brandi Crowl, Brennan Nye, Logan Clark, Jason Smith, Cody Nye, Collin Smith, Havic Smith, Riot Smith, Jochua Nasser, Kaylup Nasser and Tyler Nasser; and 1 great granddaughter, Breanna Nasser.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a younger infant brother, Robert.

Michael graduated in 1967 from Tiffin Calvert High school and retired from Atlas Crankshaft in 1997 and was co-founder of Smitty's Custom Automotive until he retired; then his son, Chris became owner. Mike and his wife, Mary, then moved to Palmetto, FL. Mike was an avid car collector and had a 56’ Black Chevy Station Wagon and later he and Mary had a 63’ Chevy Nova. He also had a Collector 84’ Chevy Silverado truck and drove it regularly.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The Rosary will be prayed 20 minutes prior to Mass.

Friends may visit and share stories from 1-4:00 P.M. and 6-8:00 P.M. on Monday, April 22, 2013 at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424. A Christian Wake Service will begin at 12:30 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Michael C. Smith Memorial Fund. An annual car show and fundraiser will be at a later date with donations going to Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency Foundation.

If you are coming to the funeral, please bring your classic car and join us in Mike’s final ride of his journey. Mike will be driven by his son, Tony, in his 56’ Chevy Station Wagon and his wife, Mary will be in their 63’ Chevy Nova, owned by Tim Kinn.
