Jim majored in math alongside classmates Jane Maxon Bowdler and John Mathey. He was one class shy of graduating with the rest of us in ‘69. He and I met in band and were married June 1969. We had three children. He taught math at Plymouth High School for one year on a temporary teaching certificate (remember those?) before returning to Heidelberg to finish his degree in 1972. His love of farming was greater than his love of teaching, so he used his math skills to run the family farm with his father. Jim died in an automobile accident on his way to buy tractor parts in May 1984, one month before our 15th wedding anniversary. Interestingly his children have careers related to math in the fields of accounting, finance, and engineering.

I remember Jim as a kind, gentle man. I mostly knew him from his participation in the band.
