Richard Davis Hense died peacefully on February 9, 2018, surrounded by family following an extended illness with renal cell carcinoma. He was 65 years old.

He was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. After graduation from Start High School in Toledo, he attended college at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he met his future wife Linda Luedeke. In 1974 he graduated from Miami with a Bachelor of Science in Business degree. He started his 40-year career with Goodyear at Akron, Ohio as an Industrial squad trainee and ended as a Human Resource Manager. His Goodyear career took him from Akron, OH; Union City, TN; Madisonville, KY; Akron, OH; Niagara Falls, NY; San Angelo, TX; Houston, TX.

After retiring from Goodyear, he went to work for New Market Corporation (Afton) in Pasadena, TX as a Human Resource Manager for two years until his cancer diagnosis.

Richard’s interests included landscaping and golf. As a high school student, he was selected to the Toledo all-city golf team and he was club champion at Union City, TN. He was a member of Atascocita Country Club. In Madisonville, KY he was a founding board member of the local Big Brother/Big Sister Chapter. Professionally he was SPHR certified.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Linda Luedeke Hense, Houston, TX; his children: Lindsay Hense, Austin, TX, and Matthew Hense, Houston, TX. He is also survived by his mother, Helen Hense, Houston, TX; nephews and niece: Chad Luedeke, Union City, TN, Brock Luedeke, Pensacola, FL, Megan Stevens, Denver, CO, and Parker Stevens, Colorado Springs, CO, and cousins: Sue Osterland and her husband Mark and Judy Spice-Sloan and her husband Mark, Wadsworth, OH. He is predeceased by father, Robert Elmer Hense and sister, Ann Louise Hense.

He will be remembered for his integrity, devotion to his family, love of the outdoors, and strong sense of civic and charitable responsibility. His wife would like to give special thanks to the nurses and support staff of Silverado Hospice, the staff of Rosemont Assisted Living, and all of his co-workers at Afton.
