Rita Mae Winckowski Obituary

Rita Mae Hernacki Winckowski was born on September 25th, 1952, and passed on February 14th, 2024, comfortably in her home surrounded by family and friends. Rita lived a fully wonderful life with her beloved husband of 50 years Gary James Winckowski. Rita and Gary had a love like no other, full of devotion and solid commitment as well as insane laughter. There was no such thing as a stranger to Rita. She knew everything about everyone on her road and made sure that her neighborhood was safe and happy.

The back deck was always full of people, country music (especially Elvis). Snacks, drinks, and laughs flowed freely at Rita's house. During the summertime Rita could often be spotted wearing her hot yellow bandana and her oversized Michigan football shirt doing caulking, watering plants, or cleaning windows. Rita taught many people how to bake, entertain, deep clean and so much more! Rita kept a perfect home inside and out. It was often the envy of the neighbors.

Rita was always one strong woman who led with fearlessness and helped with a gentle heart. She will be missed dearly within the community and her lasting passion for teaching strong independence is going to be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and survived by her husband Gary Winckowski, sons Brian (Jaime) Winckowski, Kevin Winckowski, as well as grandchildren, her two sisters Barbara Harris, and Mary Jo Gaydish. The family would like everyone who reads this to raise a glass, toast your loved ones, and say "thank you" to all strong women. Society needs more women like Rita in the world.
