November 11, 1946 - July 15, 1995. Dianne and I met Karen Campbell once in the years since graduation. She telephoned and then stopped at our home with her husband to visit at some time in the late 1980s or early 90s. I recall that her husband was suffering from Agent Orange contracted during service in Vietnam. Karen herself was suffering from a different debilitating disease. Indirectly, we heard that she and her husband had divorced and later learned that Karen had died at the age of 48.
I think Karen was the shortest female in the LHS band. (I think I was the shortest male!) The flute seemed just the right instrument for her. We hung out as friends but never dated. We sat next to each other on a band train trip to Lorain OH (I think that was where we went. I know we got beat.) Older band members made fun of us because we had "a crush" on each other and were holding hands. They wanted us to kiss (which we didn't). We were both as red as beets! RIP my little buddy.
