On Saturday September 13,my BFF was laid to rest. Doug and I were friends for over sixty years.we meet when Doug moved to the neighborhood in time for the beginning of the third grade. we were the best of friends thru high school college even though we went to different schools the first two years. Dough went to viet nam and I was inthe army freserve for six years.
He missed being in my wedding because he was in the service, but i was in his wedding. he was godfather to my second daughter. We went white water rafting in our earlyyears of marriage. he had four boys and I had two daughters. We were like Mutt and Jeff.
He spent many weeks with Judi and I up at our cabin on Sugar Island off of Sault Saitn Marie ,Michigan. He and I were avid fisherman. At Niights we would sit in adrondek chairs that we built and would discuss the affairs of America and the world.
In his last years Doug fell ill with diabetes, had to have two toes remove, renal problems and congestive heart failure. This was all due to and verified by the VA as the results of Agent Orange whic was sprayed as a defoliant while he was in Viet Nam.Duug passed away in his sleep during the night of September 9,2014.I had talked to him in Sunday the 7th.
Bill, what a beautiful tribute, I feel like I know Doug now, just from your comments. I am working on the memorial for all of our friends that have passed, and I just added Doug. Thanks again for helping me to KNOW him, Joy
