Jim was one of my few friends at Bowsher as I transferred from Central Catholic.  He and I knew each other as we lived in the same neighborhood.  We remained good friends through college and for some time afterward.  However a few years after college Jim followed his job to Nebraska and of course commuication became sporadic, primarily Christmas cards for years.  However we had a chance to reunite through a mutual friend a few years ago and I enjoyed seeing him a couple of times.  He never seemed to change, always upbeat and with a sense of humor.  He had suffered a number of health issues but seemed to be doing fine.  When Sondra, his wife called me to tell me he died from treatment from cancer I was shocked and saddened.  He really was one of the good guys.  I don't think he had a mean bone in him.

Jim had a cheap pool table in his parents garage and we taped a cigar to the wall that someone "won" if they sank the '8' ball on the break.  Sadly I won it and had to smoke it.  It was awful.  But we all got a laugh out of it.  There was also a group of us who played euchre and drank (low) beer in the garage once we were all 18 or older.  My long time friend Daryl Kross (a female) from the class of 65 was one of the participants.  Jim was always a great host (no he didn't buy all the beer, he wasn't stupid) and his parents were nice enough to ignore us as we had fun playing cards or pool.
