Carl was my best friend in HS, both Libbey and Bowsher.  We had Pauline Burton for Latin (who didn't?) and would compare our translations every night.  I passed, but just barely!  I threw him a surprise 16th birthday party (in his backyard) and kissed a girl (Sandy Page) for the first time (6/18/62, 10:45 p.m.).

Carl became a Lutheran minister and died at age 47 of lung cancer (the non-smoker's type).  He left a beautiful wife and two nice kids.  I miss the old guy and think of him very frequently.

He will be with us in spirit!

Carl was the first friend I ever had.  He lived across the alley from me and I have pictures of us from the 1940's.  Even as children you could tell that Carl was put on this earth to make a difference.  He was a child of God.  He was born with vision problems - crossed eyes, and had corrective surgeries several times before we reached junior high.  As a result he wasn't very good at sports.  But he could run like the wind.  He always intended to be a minister and became music director of a small church while we were still in high school.  Carl, his sisters and his parents were an essential part of my life.  In his short stay on this planet, he changed the world for everyone who met him.  We were shocked and saddened when he passed.  The tributes to him at his funeral are ingrained in me.  When I die, I'll know I'm in heaven when I see Carl.
