Sandra Pike (Steele-Livingston '70)

August 29,1952 - April 28, 2014

Sandra P. Steele-Livingston, 61, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away Monday following a valiant battle with brain and lung cancer. She is survived by her devoted husband, Steve, daughters Chris McGarey (Denver) and Amy Frakes (Zach), and grandchildren Kele, Oliver, Bridgette Alex, Denny, Caroline, Worthy, Harrison and Hatley. She also leaves behind an amazing circle of friends who stood by her through thick and thin. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Steele-Livingston dedicated her personal and professional lives to making North Alabama a better place to live for current and future generations. She was a consummate professional, fearless leader, nurturing mother, loyal friend, trusted neighbor and compassionate wife. She was known as one of the state's leading businesswomen, but friends remember Sandra most as a woman who could light up a room with her vibrant and genuine spirit. She was as beautiful on the outside as she was on the inside. Since 1998, Mrs. Steele-Livingston served as president and co-owner of Enfinger-Steele Development, where she focused on management oversight of the development company and its subsidiaries. Prior to her work at Enfinger-Steele, she served as Director of Marketing at the Von Braun Center, and previously served in roles at SUMMA Technology and J.T. Schrimsher Construction Company. Mrs. Steele-Livingston studied accounting at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, received an honorary business degree from Calhoun Community College and earned her AMDP in Real Estate from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. She has received many honors throughout her career, including the Presidents Award from the Madison County Homebuilders Association and the Distinguished Leadership Award and the She Knows Where She's Going Award from Huntsville-Madison County Leadership and Girls, Inc., respectively. Most recently, Mrs. Steele-Livingston was inducted into the Junior Achievement's Business Hall of Fame. Mrs. Steele-Livingston served on many local boards of directors, including but not limited to, the Huntsville Madison County Chamber of Commerce, the Calhoun Community College Foundation, the Madison County Veterans Memorial Foundation, the US Space and Rocket Center, Girls, Inc., Junior Achievement, and the American Heart Association. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Cove Methodist Church followed by a burial at Maple Hill Cemetery. The family will host a "Celebration of Life" reception at 5:00 at the McMullen Cove Clubhouse. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to t he Sandra Steele-Livingston INSPIRE fund at the Huntsville Community Foundation. Berryhill Funeral Home is assisting the family.
