Michael C. Davis

Classmate Michael Carter Davis (Mike), 73, passed away May 7, 2016.  A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, Leawood, in the Wesley Chapel.  Michael was born Feb. 26, 1943, in Topeka, to John P. and Winifred K. Davis.  His parents preceded Michael in death.  Survivors include: daughter, Molly (Darren) Gray, grandsons, Joshua and Adam; brothers, F. Scott (Paula) Davis and James K. (Neva) Davis, sisters, Julie (Doug) Oliver and Suzanne (Errol) Luginbill; and several nieces and nephews.  Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice, or to the Backpack program at The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, where Mike most recently enjoyed volunteering his time.  Overland Park Chapel, 913-648-6224, www.overlandparkchapel.com.

We were in the same classes at Randolph School and at Boswell we were part of a "Stand By Me" type group of junior high guys. I remember the recreation room style basement of his house, where strings of matchbook covers were strung wall to wall on wire above the floor. Pretty cool place for weekend parties.

He lived on the same side of the block of Campbell as John Harmon, our erstwhile leader of the pack, and across the street from the homes of Ann Garlinghouse and Kathy Crouthers, frequent sites of slumber parties of the counterpart girl pack.  Quite the block.

I remember Mike as part of our bored group one weekend when Harmon had the bright idea of riding our bikes through the storm sewers, hunched down over our handlebars, with our bike lights dimly lighting up the tunnel as our dogs raced ahead chasing the rats before us. Geez.....

Sorry to hear the news sad Rest in peace my frient!  I'll always remember the good time we had in HS. I'm glad we saw each other about 25 years KC but sad that we did'nt communicate more often. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family.  C2
