Marilyn Rose Shumate, daughter of Joe A. and Gladys I. Burdick Smith, was born February 15, 1943, in Topeka, Kansas, and departed this beautiful life she loved on June 6, 2024, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of eighty-one.
Marilyn was united in marriage to the love of her life Robert L. "Bob" Shumate on September 1, 1969, sharing forty-five wonderful years together before his passing on Christmas day in 2006.
She loved her little family dearly, and as her daughter, Kathy, went on to have four boys of her own, the love and joy in Marilyn's heart grew with each one. She was never happier than simply just spending time with her family. She grew a love for gardening through Robert and later enjoyed canning those garden vegetables with Kathy and her grandchildren. She was also very fond of her pets, dogs and cats mainly. She was always saying, "Dogs are like potato chips, you can never have just one".
Marilyn leaves behind to celebrate her love and memories many dear relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert L. "Bob" Shumate; one daughter, Kathy Ice, and one great-grand daughter, Rosalie Isabell Marstall.
She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed, but the memories she created for her family will be cherished by all, and carried throughout their families.
A Celebration of Life Visitation for Marilyn will be held at 3:00 P.M., Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Shadel's Colonial Chapel.
Her body is to be cremated under direction of Shadel's Colonial Chapel.
