Jim Brenton

James Albert Brenton Sr., 76, of Round Rock, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on September 1, 2024.

Born on March 13, 1948, in Eureka, Kansas, Jim was the eldest son of John Parker and Mary Jane Brenton. After graduating from Highland Park High School in 1966, he pursued a degree in business at Washburn University, laying the foundation for a remarkable career.

Jim began his professional journey in the United States Air Force at Whiteman Air Force Base, where he dedicated 23 years of exemplary service, marked by numerous relocations that enriched his family's life and experiences. In 1973, he married his beloved wife, Athanasia, with whom he shared 51 wonderful years.

During his tenure in the Air Force, Jim furthered his education, earning a master’s degree from the University of Missouri. Upon retiring in 1993, he continued his academic pursuits, obtaining a second master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University. Jim then transitioned into a fulfilling career in cybersecurity, working for Sprint and ERCOT, where he served until his retirement in December 2015.

In his youth, Jim was an avid skydiver, completing nearly 2,000 jumps. In retirement, he found joy in playing bridge, immersing himself in books—particularly Tom Clancy novels—and engaging with community police and the FBI. A passionate traveler and a social butterfly, Jim cherished time spent with family. Notably, in 2022, his son Jimmie and daughter-in-law Sabrina relocated to Texas to be closer to him and Athanasia, culminating in a memorable family trip to Disney World.

Jim was a deeply loved husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. His passing was sudden and unexpected, yet he would have appreciated the swiftness with which he departed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Parker and Mary Jane Brenton.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife, Athanasia; his son, Jimmie, and daughter-in-law, Sabrina; his brother, Ron; and his sisters, Tammy and Sandy.

In honoring Jim’s life, we remember his warmth, generosity, and the profound impact he made on all who knew him.
