High School Phrases Posted Friday, October 30, 2009 04:23 PM I have been thinking about the many phrases we used in high school that have fallen on disuse and would like help remembering them. One I clearly remember is Lance Wheeler saying "far out man" ad infinitum in gym class. It seems the word "man" could also be used to end any sentence, as in "that's cool, man." Something David Forrester wrote on Facebook the other day -- ("bring it on") -- caused me to remember another phrase: "come at me." As I remember it, the phrase was used to indicate that fisticuffs would soon ensue. Particularly, I remember using the phrase in eighth grade gym class in response to someone (I don't remember his name) taunting me on the basketball court. As a result of my using the line "come at me" he obliged by having his fist come at my head, resulting in a bloody lip. Wild swings ensued, but the dustup was quickly quelled by our gym coach, Mr. Wilson. The lesson learned, which sticks with me today, was not to ask someone to participate ina fight unless I really meant it. And if I do, make sure I keep my left up. Does anyone else remember this phrase, or other words that we once thought were cool, man?
