Visiting Highland Park Posted Tuesday, April 28, 2009 07:47 AM Has anyone visited the school recently (say in the last 15 years)? I am curious about how much it has changed. Would it be worthwhile for those attending a reunion to schedule a visit to those hallowed halls? Jeff Morris |

RE: Visiting Highland Park Posted Wednesday, April 29, 2009 08:19 AM I've driven by as recently as Easter weekend, but have not been inside since attending. It's weird to drive by, possibly because it brings back so many memories. The neighborhood is really in bad shape - the houses directly west are all boarded up, the convenience store is closed. The north end of the building (parking lot side) has what looks like a day care yard with all the colorful hard plastic "kiddie" climbing, slides, etc. My sister said possibly due to all the young girls that have babies while in high school. That's disheartening. I choose to believe it's a "Child Development" activity. In any case, I would love to stroll the halls again and am really anxious and excited about seeing everybody again. RE: Visiting Highland Park Posted Wednesday, April 29, 2009 04:32 PM I think it would be interesting to see the interior of the building again. I remember one of our reunions had one activity at the school--seems like a Friday evening ice cream social or something? I stopped at the school one day last year to take some pictures for this site (like the one of the main entrance in the corner of the webpage) and was afraid I looked like a stalker/bomber casing the joint! (Well, I hope I don't look that threatening, but it was a little weird!) Maybe a tour of the building could be included in reunion plans. Sounds good to me! Cindy |

RE: Visiting Highland Park Posted Tuesday, May 5, 2009 09:49 PM My sister actually teaches there. It is fun to walk those halls. Has been even more fun to go to basketball games, including watching the Scots be state champions these past 3 years. Mr Cushinberry is a great principal, although I will never believe they have the same school spirit we did. Miss the Bonnie Lassies. Now just some girls doing some hootchie dances I don't get. |

RE: Visiting Highland Park Posted Thursday, May 7, 2009 08:29 PM I've been going to the annual Alumni pot-luck for the last few years. My mom graduated from HPHS in 1937, and she needed someone to take her to the dinners. I thought it was kind of fun, even though there are never grads from the 70's there. So I still go, even though my mother is now unable to. Here's their website: http://hphsalumni.com/ This year's dinner is June 13, in the school cafeteria. It would be great if we could get a bunch from the 75 class and all sit together. That's what some of the classes from the 60's do. |
