Ilona Marie Smith Ilona Marie Smith was born July 25, 1946, in Topeka, Kansas, the oldest of six children to the late Wilbur Porter and Esther Anderson Smith. She was married to Henry Gueary and from this union, they had Alice. In 2001, Ilona united in marriage with Brinson Smith and with this union came two daughters. She attended Topeka Public Schools. She was an employee of Kansas Neurological Institute (KNI) and St. Francis Health Center, where she retired after 40 plus years of service. She was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, was a Deaconess as well as serving in other church ministries. She also sang in the choir and participated in many ministries at New Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Ilona received her reward of eternal rest on Wednesday, June 7, 2017. She is preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Esther Smith and her sister, Delores Smith. Leaving behind to cherish her memory is her beloved husband, Brinson Smith and three children; Alice Gueary of Topeka, Kansas, Czraela (Mike) of Olathe, Kansas and Dusang (Chonte) Spragley of Topeka, Kansas. She is also survived by her sisters, Gertrude (Jerome) Smith-Williams of Topeka, Kansas, Sheila (Ron) Carter of Galveston, Texas, brother, Leonard (Lorraine) Smith of Columbia, Missouri; sister, Linda Smith of Topeka, Kansas; nieces, Venita (Kenneth) Stokes of Topeka, Kansas, Sheronda Carter of Galveston, Texas; nephews, Hassan Smith of Topeka, Kansas and Isaiah Smith of Kansas City, Kansas; great nephews, Dario Haynes of Brandon, Florida, Kendrick Laws and Amari Laws both of Columbia, Missouri; great nieces, Sienna Haynes and Kaedyn Stokes both of Topeka, Kansas. She was also survived by her extended family which was Alice's seven siblings, 20 nieces and nephews and 35 great nieces and nephews as well as a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1100 SE Washington Street. She will lie in state from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday at Bowser-Johnson Funeral Chapel, 723 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, where he family will receive guests from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Online condolences may be made at www.bowserjohnsonfuneralchapel.com.
