What did you do right after high school?

Attended UCSB, double-majored: English and history; humanities minor.
Bachelor's degrees in English and history; secondary teaching credential

What did you want to do or think you were going to do when you finished high school?

I planned on attending college. Had thought since age 7 that I would become a doctor but believed a woman who wants to become a doctor would not be able to spend adequate time at home with husband and children. Consequently, I became a teacher, a position which allowed me to work with children and be an active participant with my own family. I was always very active with my son's activities, including being a team mom and even a soccer coach.

What would we be surprised to know about you?

As a teacher I was able to take students to many countries around the world--a situation which also gave me the opportunity to bring my insights into the classroom. I worked with Habitat for Humanity in Nicaragua and studied in Mexico and Costa Rica and was in the Peace Corps in Brazil for a time.

I have become a successful writer.

What’s your favorite memory of THS?

Being part of the Leadership class was very rewarding for me. I never missed a football or basketball game in four years and was probably the loudest screamer at those events--very proud of our basketball team when we went to the playoffs in Long Beach.

My favorite memory is the advice a young man gave me about looking around and being more chatty and warm as I walked between classes (I was always thinking about the next class). I have ever since made a point of speaking to and showing interest in just about everyone, such as the cook, janitor, gardener, person in line at the market, or just the average man/woman on the street.

Biggest thing you would do differently if you went back to your time at THS?

I had a wonderful group of friends but should have reached out to be part of a broader range of friendships.

Any words of wisdom?

The purpose of life is to make yourself a better person and to make the world a better place!

Pat and I were fast friends.  There was a whole group of us that hung around with each other.  I am so sorry to hear about Pat (although she passed many years ago at a young age).  We lost track of each other, especially after she moved to Costa Rica (I studied there but didn't know she was there, possibly at the same time).  God bless her and her family.

This saddens me.   Pam Fleming and I were on the Prom Court together.  Alan and his friend double-dated with us.  It was a grand evening--the Prom, Coconut Grove, and breakfast at Pam's home.  Alan and I went on to UCSB together.  We enjoyed several adventures.  I shall miss him but shall keep the memories.   With affection, Rosemary Galanda Jenkins

I am glad I was able to write a note to Mr. Ronan before he passed.  He was a truly good man.  It was good to see him at our 50th Reunion.  I shall long remember him.

Hope all is well. A quick question: I don't see Sally Kantorski on any of the lists. Has she been located? If so, do you know how to contact her? Thank you. Be well.
