Marilyn Stewart Toftegaard  - Jan 17, 1937- Feb 4, 2011
 

TOFTEGAARD, MARILYN -  BRUNSWICK - Marilyn S. (Stewart) Toftegaard, 74, owner and operator of Howie's Jewelers in Lansingburgh, died peacefully, Friday, February 4, 2011 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy with her devoted family by her side. Born in Troy, January 17, 1937, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Edward Y. and Laura (Snow) Stewart and the wife of the late Howard Toftegaard Sr. and the late Henry C. DeMartino. Marilyn was a graduate of Troy High School, Class of 1955 and later earned a degree from Green Mountain Junior College. Following her marriage to Mr. Toftegaard on September 13, 1958, she joined him in the operation of Howie's Jewelers in North Troy. She was still actively involved in the daily business operations, working with her son and her extended family. Among her many hobbies, she enjoyed square dancing, trips to the casino, rummikube with her sister, playing bridge, traveling and visiting with the many customers and friends she has made through the years at the jewelry store. Marilyn is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Diana Toftegaard Jr. of Johnsonville and a daughter and son-in-law, Carla and Charles E. Bradish IV of Scarborough, Maine, three step children, Carol Harrington of Rochester, Jon DeMartino of Virginia and Joel DeMartino of Clifton Park, a sister, Sandra Purtell of Troy, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and a nephew. In addition to her late husbands, a stepson, the late Paul DeMartino predeceased her. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Monday February 7, 2011. at the Brunswick Baptist Church, located at 385 Grange Road, (NYS Route 142) in Brunswick. A memorial service will follow at 7:15 P.M. Burial later this spring will be held privately at Memorys Garden in Colonie. At Mrs. Toftegaard's request, memorial contributions if desired, may be made to the Louis J. Acompora Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 767, Northport, NY 11768.
