JAMES THOMAS WHITEHURST III
Whitehurst, James Thomas III TROY James Thomas Whitehurst III, 67, of Troy, died Saturday, August 4, 2007 in hospice care at Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Troy, Tom was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Troy High School ('57). Tom then furthered his education attending Pennsylvania Military College where he graduated and was commissioned 1st Lieutenant in the army stationed in Germany. Tom ended his army career to return home and join his brother in running the family business, Whitehurst Printing & Binding Company. During his 41 year career with Whitehurst Press he served on many boards including Vanderheyden Hall, Oakwood Cemetery, The Junior Museum and Printing Industry Association. He also participated in many area clubs such as the University Club, Troy Club (past President). Troy Country Club and the Lions Club (3 time past President). When not working, Tom was an avid tennis player and an accomplished pilot taking a non-stop flight through the Bermuda Triangle. Tom is predeceased by his father, James Thomas Whitehurst Jr.; mother, Anne Simms Whitehurst; twin brother, Norman Wendell Whitehurst and sister, Gail Rogers Reitz. Tom is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan Trahan Whitehurst; his three children, James Scott Whitehurst, Amanda Paige Keane (Conor), Rebecca Leith Fernandez (Emmanuel) and his sister, Patricia Young (William). There will be no viewing and a private family memorial service will be held.
