Cheney, Carol Ann WATERVLIET Carol Ann (Ames) Cheney, age 71, of Watervliet, died with her loving husband at her side on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Samaritan Hospital, Troy, N.Y. She was born January 16, 1938 in Platts-burgh, N.Y., moved to Troy at an early age and was a resident of Watervliet for most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Ransom O. and Dorothy M. (Andrews) Ames of Troy. After graduating from Troy High School in 1958, she was employed for the NYS Corporation Tax and Finance Division as a data entry clerk advancing to senior account clerk for the Department of Health from where she retired in 1996. After retirement, she was a homemaker, did volunteer work at the Center for the Disabled, and enjoyed a number of hobbies. She was the wife of 49 years of John F. Cheney; beloved mother of Patricia M. Sowinski of Zionsville, Ind. and Thomas M. Cheney of Portland, Ore.; four beloved grandsons, John and James Sowinski, Alexander and Christopher Cheney, also survive her. Close relatives include her two stepsisters, Marie and Kathleen; half-brothers, Norman and John; a half-sister, Dorothy; and a cousin, Carman Lambert of Plattsburgh, N.Y. Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family at the Cummings Funeral Home, 643 Third Avenue, Watervliet. There will be no calling hours. Interment is in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions in Carol's name to the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204.
