I remember Carla in PS 18, was a friend to everyone, had a ready laugh and smile, lost track of her in HS, as she spent a lot of time with Steve Thomas. I remember riding my bike from Mt Pleasnat, down South Lake to Hoosick, then onto Carla Lane, once or twice, with - I think, memory is tenuous - Mike Caola and another guy. Could not get over the fact that the street was named after her. Carla was our Venus.

I believe I should correct Carla's address. The Schlegels lived on Prout Avenue, not Carla Lane. Before Prout, it was N. Lake Avenue. Whitey Schlegel was not a developer. He worked for the telephone company.
Art North is right: we did spend a lot of time together. Our first date was an RPI hockey game in January 1957. I was 13; Carla was 14.

Although a year younger, I do remember Carla well. My girlfriend in 2nd grade at School 18 was Mary Beth Schlegel. She went over to the new Our Lady of Victory Catholic School. I was devasted! I believe there was a relationship between Carla and Mary Beth, maybe cousins? Steve, my next real girlfriend in 8th grade (Proctors movies from the second floor), was Ellen McKeefe (7th grader), who lived off Brunswick Road. It was a long walk from out North Lake Avenue! It is difficult to me to read all these obits of us youngersters. I did know Carla and hope she had a wonderful life. I see she touched a lot of people, which is so nice to see. Rest in Peace, Carla! You are remembered by many!

Carla and I began our friendship at a very young age since we lived closeby to one another. We would ride our bikes, swing on her backyard swingset, ice skate at a nearby pond and sleighride on a hill by her house. In those days, before technology, no matter what the weather, we found things to do outside. We didn't have a care in the world. She was such a kind, caring person. May she rest in peace.

When I first read Connie's posting of Carla's passing, I sent an email to him expressing my sadness. I should have shared the thoughts directly on this site. Carla was a beautiful and kind young woman and we were friends through grade school and high school. She was so pretty and everyone liked her. We all admired Steve Thomas and Carla, as they led our class through junior and senior years. I found the poem he posted very moving. Carla, your beautiful spirit will always inspire the best in everyone who knew and loved you. May light perletual shine upon you. Doris

I rember Carla well from school 18 and Troy High. She lived on Prout Ave just down from Diick Feldman. She was a soft spoken, Class lady who had a beautiful personality. Always remember her smile. Lost track of her after school but remember her with Steve Thomas. Rest in peace Carla.

Carla always seemed like a shinning light to me. After reading about her life's journey ending in energy healing work, I believe she was a truly awakened being.
